Chief executive of NHS Connecting for Health Richard Granger has announced that he plans to quit his post to return to the private sector.

Mr Granger will leave the agency, which is responsible for delivering the national IT programme to the NHS in England, later this year. A statement said he is currently considering 'several significant approaches' for his next move.

Mr Granger said he wanted to acknowledge the 'enduring professional support' he had received from his team and other NHS colleagues. An announcement about his successor will be made in due course.
