More than one in 10 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is dead within 90 days of being admitted to hospital, a national audit of the condition has found. The study of 234 hospitals by the Royal College of Physicians and British Thoracic Society also discovered that one in three COPD patients are readmitted to hospital within the same time period.
