A borough council has been granted a judicial review of a plan to close a hospital accident and emergency department.
Enfield council said the High Court is to hear its challenge to the plan to downgrade Chase Farm hospital's A&E and maternity services.
The plan was approved by the Independent Reconfiguration Panel and health secretary Alan Johnson last September.
Barnet, Enfield and Haringey primary care trusts are seeking to have the review called off. Enfield PCT chief executive Stephen Conroy said the legal challenge "risks delaying the implementation of much-needed improvements".
Enfield council leader Michael Rye (Con) said: "We believe the decision to close A&E is wrong, and it must be reversed."
