I am surprised St George's Healthcare trust was omitted from the table of success stories accompanying the article 'A&E strugglers set to meet four-hour target' (news, pages 5-6, 3 April).

We are one of the trusts showing the greatest improvement in achieving the accident and emergency four-hour wait targets.

In the audit week, 99 per cent of patients were seen within four hours, compared with 50 per cent in the last quarter. This impressive increase was achieved through measures including:

transport dedicated to A&E and the medical admissions unit;

a rapid response team to triage the elderly;

extra porters in A&E;

additional doctors managing emergency clinics;

an additional emergency nurse practitioner;

the 'see and treat' initiative.
