Mental health worker Jeff Watmough has decided to take his passion for cycling beyond his usual stamping ground of Trafford, to the exotic climes of Cuba.

A social worker with North Trafford community mental health team, part of Bolton, Salford and Trafford Mental Health trust, Jeff is set to take part in a 235-mile sponsored bike ride in aid of mental health charity Mind. He will be setting off in February.

'I usually ride a bike at the local gym, so I hope the scenery will be more interesting, ' he says.

Described as 'rural Cuba at its best' the route will take Jeff along the Caribbean coastline and into the depths of the island's hilly interior.

Jeff is also looking for sponsorship - he still needs to raise£2,000 towards the cost of his trip.

'Working in mental health, I am very aware of the important work of Mind and thought this would be a great way to support them.

'I hope my efforts will help in their work to promote a better life for everyone with experience of mental distress. So any amount, however big or small, will be going to a really worthwhile cause, ' he says.

Jeff's fundraising has only just begun, so there is a long way to go. If you would like to sponsor him e-mail jeffreywatmough@aol. com, or donate online at www. justgiving. com/jeffw If you fancy having a go yourself further details are available at www.
