Scottish Conservative health spokesman David Davidson has resigned after newspaper allegations about his personal life.

Mr Davidson, 65, who is married with five children, was linked in the reports with the SNP MSP Christine Grahame, who has refused to comment.

He said he would continue to serve as a backbench MSP. Mr Davidson, who has been accused in a Sunday newspaper of binge drinking, broke his leg last week when he slipped and fell on cobbles on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh after attending a Tory function.

Nanette Milne, a former research doctor in oncology, has been appointed to replace him.
