All dentists will in future be required to have indemnity insurance before registration with the General Dental Council, the Department of Health has announced. In a bid to answer concerns raised by the Office of Fair Trading inquiry into the private dentistry market, the DoH has also announced that the GDC will extend regulation to other professionals working in dentistry, including nurses and technicians. The GDC is being asked to revamp its fitness to practice procedures and introduce new measures to tackle poor performance.
