The announcement of the proposed franchising arrangements for the four failing hospitals was poorly managed, to put it mildly.
The present managers and staff of each are rightly dismayed to have been treated in this cavalier fashion, when indications were that improvements were being made.
Management failings may have been a contributory factor, but arguably less significant than the underfunding of the trusts and their health authorities. What have the nonexecutive board members done about that? Have any of them resigned to show support for the maligned chief executives?
When the bidding details for the franchises and the specification are revealed, it will be most interesting to see if any 'experienced NHS managers' come forward to take on the scope of work required for the money available.
