More people with drug problems are receiving treatment and their care is improving, a report by the Healthcare Commission and the National Treatment Agencyhas found.

The number of people receiving specialist drug treatment increased from 85,000 in 1998-99 to 195,400 in 2006-07.

The review also found there had been considerable improvement in the commissioning and performance management of drug treatment services, resulting in more service users receiving better treatment.
