A former trust manager has appeared in court on charges of fraud and deception. Walter James Hurley, 49, former manager of sub-contracted services for Lifecare trust in Surrey, is accused of committing six offences involving up to £500,000.

Fraud squad officers from Surrey Police launched an investigation into allegations of financial irregularities in sub-contracted services at the community trust last May.

Trust chair Frank Birch, chief executive Ian Semple and finance director David Healey resigned last year. The trust has stressed that none was directly involved in the police investigation. The court hearing was adjourned until 25 May.
