Two NHS trusts will provide support to the Falkland Islands when military services are withdrawn as part of defence restructuring.
Southampton University Hospitals trust and Leeds Teaching Hospitals trust will provide staff and support to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital near Port Stanley.
The Leeds trust, one of the UK's largest, has won a contract to service clinical equipment, starting in July.
The department of medical physics and engineering will handle equipment sent to the UK on weekly flights and will send staff to the Falklands twice a year to service equipment onsite and provide training and advice.
Southampton University Hospitals trust will send a senior radiographer and pathology technician to the Falklands later this year for a secondment lasting several months and will supply on-going support until the islands are self-sufficient.
