Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals trust has been put on an improvement notice by the Healthcare Commission for failing to comply with hygiene codes.

The commission has ordered immediate changes to the trust's infection control practices after finding it was failing to put in place management systems for infection prevention and control or provide and maintain a clean environment. An unannounced visit found alcohol gels were not provided at the point of care at patients' beds, lockers or attached to staff uniforms. Messages to staff regarding the use of alcohol gels versus soap and water were found to be inconsistent and confusing.
