I was surprised to see that in his article 'Boards on the wards' (Law special report, pages 35-37, 9 June) David Owens did not mention the Good Governance Standard for Public Services published in January by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and Office for Public Management.
The standard was developed by an independent commission chaired by Sir Alan Langlands. It is very comprehensive and easy to use and many trust boards are now using it to help them to improve governance for the NHS. It can be downloaded from www. opm. co. uk.
