Education secretary Alan Johnson has announced a package of new measures to tackle childhood obesity in schools.

Education secretary Alan Johnson has announced a package of new measures to tackle childhood obesity in schools. The initiatives include£240m funding to subsidise healthy ingredients and£2m to set up regional training kitchens.

All secondary school children will be offered cookery courses from 2008 and a fund for building kitchens will be available from 2008. Small and local producers will also be encouraged to compete for school food contracts.
