Guyana, a commonwealth country on the South American mainland, has suffered from the worst flooding in recent times, with three regions being declared 'disaster areas'.
Urgent international assistance is being sought to deal with the situation.
A particular need is for doctors with experience of dealing with the aftermath of flooding in tropical countries.
