Royal College of Nursing general secretary Christine Hancock has urged health secretary Frank Dobson to clarify the government's position on funding long-term nursing care.

She made the call in the wake of a recent High Court ruling that North and East Devon health authority acted 'unfairly and irrationally' by closing a long-stay hospital for disabled people and transferring them to social services' care. Ms Hancock said the ruling made it clear that eligibility criteria for nursing care were unlawful and HAs could not refuse to fund such care, wherever it was delivered.
