Former NHS Wales chief executive Ann Lloyd is to be health and social care commissioner for London, the Appointments Commission has announced.
Ms Lloyd will be responsible for the recruitment of chairs and non-executive directors to NHS bodies across the capital.
She will also be involved in providing pastoral support, mentoring and training for those who are appointed.
The Welsh Assembly announced her retirement in October.

She said: "I am very pleased indeed to join the excellent team at the Appointments Commission as the regional commissioner for London. I am looking forward to working with all public bodies to ensure that boards and their chairs have good support to help them in their difficult roles."
Ms Lloyd will take up the post, which commands an annual salary of£31,059, in February 2009.
The term of the appointment is four years.
