Labour shadow health secretary Heidi Alexander has appointed a new political adviser.

Ben Nunn will join the Labour health team in December, HSJ has learnt.

Ben Nunn’s role will focus on Labour’s health communications

Mr Nunn currently works for specialist health policy and communications consultancy Incisive Health and has contributed articles to HSJ.

Before joining Incisive Health, he worked for communications agency MHP Health.

HSJ understands Mr Nunn’s role will focus on Labour’s health communications, but will also involve some policy work.

Tom Whitney, who worked for Labour’s former shadow health secretary, Andy Burnham, will continue to advise Ms Alexander on policy.

Ms Alexander was appointed shadow health secretary following the election of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader last month.

She has recently spoken out in support of junior doctors in their dispute with health secretary Jeremy Hunt over proposed changes to their contract.

At a rally in London by junior doctors earlier this month, Ms Alexander said the government was punishing staff “for their own financial mismanagement of the NHS”.
