Public sector bodies, particularly hospitals, could face large fines if they do not take action to ensure their data protection upholds human rights laws, a law firm has warned.

Ward Hadaway cited a recent case in Finland, in which a hospital was fined after its records system was deemed insufficiently robust to prevent personal details being accessed, and said a UK court was likely to reach the same decision.
