The London agency project has selected 72 private nursing agencies to supply nursing to all the capital's hospitals.The agreement, which comes into force in April, aims to cut staffing expenditure by 5-10 per cent in its first year.There were 110 agencies involved in the tendering process.

The Commission for Health Improvement has raised concerns about access and care at the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville trust.CHI's review said a shortage of beds and nurses meant specialist patients could not always be admitted to the centre. It also described poor working relationships and management problems in accident and emergency.

Campaigners fighting against the restructuring of Kent and Canterbury Hospital last week lost their High Court challenge.Concern for Health in East Kent argued that proposals agreed by Kent and Medway strategic health authority in March were different to those put forward during public consultation.But the judge rejected four claims and refused leave to appeal.
HSJ reported that the Commission for Health Improvement will return to East Kent Hospitals trust in six months' time (news in brief, page 6, December 5).This is not the case.The item also stated that patients who had heart attacks were not receiving thrombolysis, when in fact CHI was concerned that thrombolysis was not being received within national targets.
