A man who held his former psychiatrist hostage at knifepoint for 90 minutes inside her hospital was ordered to be detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act last week. Edward Coveney, 25, of London, had gone to Guy's Hospital on 21 March to see a particular doctor. But when he was not there, he turned on his former psychiatrist, Emma Sedgewick. He pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and having a kitchen knife as an offensive weapon.
