Dr John Stephenson has been appointed medical director of Amber Valley primary care trust.Dr Stephenson is a GP and also a hospital practitioner, working in elderly medicine.

Professor Janet Askham, professor of gerontology and director of the institute of gerontology at King's College London, has been named research director of healthcare research charity Picker Institute Europe.Professor Askham is also scientific adviser to the Department of Health's research programmes on older people.

Former Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire strategic health authority chief executive Jane Herbert has joined Frontline Consultants as a director.She has also held chief executive posts in Manchester and Glasgow.

South West London and St George's Mental Health trust has appointed Peter Ramrayka as project director, overseeing major capital projects.Mr Ramrayka is a career NHS manager and a British Executive Service Overseas volunteer.He is currently providing voluntary leadership to public health, HIV/AIDS, water and agricultural schemes in Tanzania.

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence has named Louise Fish as communications programme director.Before this, Ms Fish was acting head of communications and and senior communications manager at NICE.

Child psychotherapist Peter Wilson has retired from his post as director of young people's mental health charity YoungMinds, the organisation he co-founded 12 years ago.

On 19 February, In Person reported that Mersey Care trust had appointed service users' champion Les Carlisle as a non-executive director.Mr Carlisle is in fact a non-executive member, and will have no voting rights.
