Dr Gillian Fairfield has been appointed chief executive of Doncaster and South Humber Healthcare trust.

Dr Fairfield qualified from Birmingham University in 1981 and has held a variety of clinical, managerial and policy posts.Most recently she was medical director of Hull and East Riding Community Health trust.

Hugh Ross has been appointed chief executive of Cardiff and Vale trust.He takes over from David Edwards, who is retiring.Mr Ross is a former chief executive of trusts in Bristol and Leicester and is currently programme director of the Bristol health service plan .

Northamptonshire Healthcare trust has appointed Ron Shields as chief executive.Mr Shields has been acting chief executive for six months.Before that he was director of service development for the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health and chief executive of Haringey Community Healthcare trust.

Steve Collins has been seconded for a year to Surrey and Sussex Healthcare trust as director of strategic development.He has been seconded from Surrey and Sussex strategic health authority, where he was director of healthcare strategy.

Stockport trust has named Jill Byrne as director of nursing and midwifery.Ms Byrne joined the trust in 2001 as deputy director of nursing and head of clinical governance.She began her nursing career at Warrington District General Hospital, where she trained as a registered general nurse, later qualifying as a midwife.

Martyn Yorke has been named director of nursing and clinical practice at Ealing Hospital trust.Mr Yorke qualified as a registered nurse in 1978 and a psychiatric nurse in 1981.He joined Ealing in 1985 and has since obtained a postgraduate diploma in management studies and an MSc in operational management.

Three new consultant orthopaedic surgeons have joined Northumbria Healthcare trust.They are Mike Reed, Maria Van Kampen and Govinda Prasad.
