Giles Mahoney has been appointed chief executive of the orthopaedic diagnostic and treatment centre being developed on the Epsom General Hospital site.He has been project director of the scheme for the last 14 months.Mr Mahoney joined the NHS as a management trainee in the early 1990s.

Joanne Chadwick will be joining Sussex Ambulance Service trust as operational performance manager.The post will be a 12-month secondment to cover maternity leave.

Ms Chadwick has worked in the NHS for over 10 years and is currently project and modernisation manager with East Sussex Hospitals trust.

Jim Easton has joined York Health Services trust as chief executive.Mr Easton has held a number of senior positions in the health service in the north of England in the past 16 years.He has held director-level posts running an acute hospital, in primary care, commissioning and in strategic planning.He was most recently director of development in the directorate of health and social care (north) and he has also been a board member at the Modernisation Agency.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council has named Christina McKenzie as head of midwifery, a new post.A midwife with 20 years'experience, Ms McKenzie was most recently head of midwifery and head of nursing at in the women's health directorate, Guy's and St Thomas'Hospital trust.

The Royal College of Midwives has announced that Maggie Elliott will succeed Lorna Muirhead as president of the college.Ms Elliott, who is director of midwifery and general manager at Queen Charlottes and Chelsea Hospital, qualified as a midwife in 1979 and has been involved with the college in various capacities since 1980.

Professor Chris Thompson has been appointed group director of healthcare services at Priory Healthcare, an independent provider of specialist mental healthcare, neuro-rehabilitation and special services.Professor Thompson is head of the school of medicine and professor of psychiatry at Southampton University.
