Neil Watson-Jones has been elected chair of the Hospital Caterers Association for a two-year term.

He was formerly vice-chair.Mr WatsonJones is currently trust catering manager at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals trust in Redditch and is a member of the Department of Health's better hospital food programme.

The chief executive of pressure group Action for Victims of Medical Accidents, Arnold Simanowitz, is to retire at the end of the year.Mr Simanowitz set up AVMA in 1982, giving up his practice as a solicitor.AVMA now has a budget of£1m and a staff of 25 and has helped more than 80,000 patients and relatives.

Manchester Mental Health and Social Care trust has appointed Marilyn Taylor as chair.Ms Taylor has been a member of Manchester city council since 1994 and is responsible for the healthy city initiative and asylum seekers.She was chair of Manchester Mental Health Partnership from October 2000.Andrew Butters has been appointed chief executive.He was formerly chief executive of Manchester Mental Health Partnership.

The chairs of five local health boards have been announced; they will be in post from from 1 April 2003.

Susan Pritchard goes to Monmouthshire LHB.She is an independent management consultant and has been a non-executive member of Gwent health authority since 1998.Dr Gwyn Roberts is appointed to Wrexham LHB.He has been a GP in Wrexham for 18 years and chair of the local health group since 1998.Dr Michael Robinson joins Vale of Glamorgan LHB.He has been a GP in the area since 1976.Professor Colin Jones is appointed to Bridgend LHB.He was director of the Welsh Local Government Association from 1996-2001.Dr Christopher Jones goes to Rhondda Cynon Taff LHB.He is local health group chair and has been a GP in Pontypridd for 20 years.

Karen Straughair has been appointed chief executive of Sunderland Teaching primary care trust.

She was previously acting chief executive of Gateshead Health trust.Ms Straughair has worked in the NHS for 21 years, initially in human resources and later in service planning, development and contracting.
