Wendy Farrington has been appointed as director of finance at Wolverhampton City primary care trust.A qualified accountant, she was director of finance at Walsall Community Health trust and began her career 16 years ago as a financial management trainee within the NHS.

Colin Elding has been recruited by the British Heart Foundation to be UK manager of its life-saving programme, Heartstart UK.

Mr Elding previously worked as senior resuscitation officer at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Liz Morgan has been made director of nursing and family-centred care at Birmingham Childrens Hospital trust.Two other new directors have been appointed to its executive team - Chris Brown becomes director of operations and Bob Dredge has been seconded to the post of director of finance and information.

Dr Philip Wright has been appointed director of science and technology at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, succeeding Dr Jeff Kipling, who left ABPI in April.Dr Wright was director of scientific and education affairs at Glaxo Wellcome from 1998 to 2001.Before that, he spent four years working for the Confederation of British Industry.
