Debra Lapthorne has been appointed director of public health for Plymouth primary care trust.

She has been a registered health visitor for 12 years and her new role will incorporate her previous post as team leader for Plymouth health action zone.

Joe Kewin is to become chief executive of Northgate and Prudhoe trust, a specialist provider of disability services.He is currently head of services for learning disabilities at Derbyshire county council.He has over 23 years' experience in the NHS and social services.

Consultant haematologist/oncologist Dr David Gozzard is to become medical director at Conwy and Denbighshire trust from 1 September, taking over from Dr Jeff Williams, who retires at the end of August.He has been consultant haematologist at Glan Clwyd Hospital since 1988 and is currently chair of the North Wales medical committee.

Bob Adams has been appointed healthcare development manager with Sanofi-Synthelabo.He was previously national healthcare project manager with GlaxoSmithKline.

Kim Archer is the new chief executive of the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham, Surrey.Ms Archer left the Royal Brompton and Harefield trust, where she was director of research services, last month.

Members of the new special health board NHS Education for Scotland have been announced.The six nonexecutive members until 31 March 2006 are: Dr Lindsay Burley, chief executive of Borders board; Professor John Fairley, professor of public policy and local economic development at Strathclyde University; Tesfu Gessesse, manager of Black Community Development project; Professor Valerie Maehle, associate dean of the faculty of health and social care, school of health sciences, Robert Gordon University; Professor John Rae, head of the school of nursing and midwifery at Paisley University; consultant psychiatrist Dr Sue Whyte.They join chair Ann Markham and chief executive Dr Graham Buckley.The board aims to develop a culture of education, training and lifelong learning for all health staff.
