Miles Scott has taken up the post of chief executive of Harrogate Health Care trust. He joins the trust from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals trust, where he was assistant chief executive.

Joanna Foster has been appointed chair of the Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital trust and will formally take up her post from the beginning of November. She chaired the Equal Opportunities Commission for five years and is a member of the government advisory committee on work-home balance, as well as holding a number of other honorary posts.

Fiona Smith, formerly associate director of nursing and paediatric adviser at Leicester University Hospital trust, has been appointed the Royal College of Nursing's adviser in paediatric nursing. She will replace Sue Burr, who is retiring this autumn.

Professor Jonathan Weber has been appointed to St Mary's trust as director of research and development, a non-executive director post. He was one of the UK's first full-time clinical investigators of HIV and is currently professor of genito-urinary medicine at Imperial College.

The chair of Frimley Park Hospital trust board, Jane Cooke, has been reappointed for a further four years. Three other non-executive directors have also been reappointed to the board. They are Maureen Swage, who became vice-chair in 1999, David Kennedy and Cathy Smith.

Abertay University, Dundee, has appointed Moya Morison its first professor of health and nursing. Professor Morison, a nursing author and researcher, is a member of the university's school of social and health sciences.

Vivien Hepworth, currently chair of Surrey and Sussex Healthcare trust, has been appointed as one of two new lay members of the Press Complaints Commission.
