Thelma Holland will join Cornwall and Isles of Scilly health authority as chief executive in May. Since 1992, she has been chief executive of Nottingham City Hospital trust. Over the past two years she has also been seconded by the NHS Executive to two Midlands HAs.

Two chairs have been reappointed in the Merseyside area. Rosemary Hawley, chair of North Mersey Community trust, and Frank Taylor, chair of Royal Liverpool Children's trust Alder Hey, will both serve a further three years.

Susan Brook has become a non-executive director of Powys Healthcare trust. She is a former television presenter and journalist.

Cardiff and District Community trust has two non-executive directors: Dorothy Hosein, a marketing manager, and Dr Roger Verrier Jones, a former consultant paediatrician at Llandough Hospital.

Bro Taf health authority has a new non-executive director: Jill Penn, a former chair of Airedale trust.

Gwent health authority also has new non-executive directors: Marlene Thomas, a retired barrister, and Patrick Moriarty, a civil engineer.

Dr Malcolm Morgan, director of the executive MBA programme and lecturer in accounting at Imperial College management school, and Moira Black, until recently chair of Riverside Community Healthcare trust, have become non-executive directors of North West London Hospitals trust.

Ruth Lesirge has become director of the Mental Health Foundation. She was previously chief executive of Cottage Homes, a benevolent association providing aid to retail employees and their relatives.

Dr Ahmed Hassam has been appointed chair of the new Birmingham Specialist Community Health trust. He has been chair of Northern Birmingham Community Health trust for two years. It is merging with Southern Birmingham Community Health trust to form the new organisation.
