Jeff French has been appointed director of planning, partnerships and communication for the Health Development Agency. He was director of health development in North Cumbria.

Ann Marr, formerly deputy chief executive and director of finance at University Hospital, Aintree has taken up her post as chief executive of Liverpool Women's Hospital trust.

Anthea Millett has become chair of Wiltshire health authority, succeeding Alistair Service. She was chief executive of the Teacher Training Agency from 1995 until earlier this year and has also served as a non-executive director of Salisbury Healthcare trust.

Gerald Zeidman has been appointed non-executive director of Barnet health authority. He is a community pharmacist in Edgware, a fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and vice-chair of the HA.

John Wilderspin, chief executive of Princess Alexandra Hospital trust, is to be programme director for Action on Ear, Nose and Throat Services.

Sue Sutherland has been appointed to head UK Transplant, the successor to the UK Transplant Support Service authority. She joins from Royal Devon and Exeter Healthcare trust, where she held directorships in nursing and personnel and, most recently, clinical and nursing services.

Gary Fereday is the new NHS Confederation policy manager for acute services, resources, information for health, ambulances and specialised commissioning. His previous posts include working for then shadow health secretary Margaret Beckett.

Viv Speller has been appointed director of health improvement for the Health Development Agency.

She was senior lecturer in health promotion at Southampton University.
