Brendan Ryan has been appointed medical director at South Manchester University Hospitals trust. He succeeds Dr Philip Jones, who stepped down recently after a period of ill-health. Mr Ryan is a consultant in accident and emergency medicine and was formerly one of two trust associate medical directors.

Shelley Dowd has become director of corporate development and human resources at East Berkshire Community Health trust. She was previously the trust's head of human resources.

Geoff Lang, assistant chief executive (planning) at North East Wales trust, has been appointed director of finance at North Wales health authority. He takes over from Nigel Morris.

Patricia Gregory has been reappointed as chair of Kingston and District Community trust.

Pauline Wood has been appointed as a non-executive member of North Wales health authority.

Mrs Wood is vice-chair of the multi-research ethics committee for Wales, and chaired North East Wales community health council until March this year.

Bromley Hospitals trust has a new non-executive director, Sally Thomson, assistant director of education for the Royal College of Nursing. Dennis Barkway has been re-appointed as a non executive director.

Brian Carlin has been reappointed chair of the Northern Ireland Central Services Agency for Health and Social Services.

Morecambe Bay Hospitals trust has taken a step towards becoming a teaching centre by appointing Dr Mike Flanagan as clinical sub-dean, and Dr Bill Mitchell as associate clinical subdean.

Graham Jones has become director of information and performance management at Nottingham health authority.

He joins the HA from Trent regional office in Sheffield, where he headed the information team.
