Roy McLachlan has been appointed chief executive of Priority Healthcare Wearside trust. He joins from Bishop Auckland Hospitals trust, where he was also chief executive.

South Manchester University Hospitals trust has a new chief executive. Jane Herbert was previously chief executive of West Glasgow Hospitals University trust, a position she held for four years.

South Derbyshire health authority has appointed a new public health consultant - Gillian Evans. Dr Evans trained as a GP in Norfolk and worked in London before doing her public health training in Bristol.

Robert Pugh becomes co-medical director at Camden and Islington Community Health Services trust. He has previously worked at the trust as a consultant psychiatrist but was most recently clinical director at Norfolk Mental Health Care trust.

Dr Pugh replaces Stuart Turner and will job share with Erica Allason-Jones.

Allington trust has a new chair - Frank Wells. Dr Wells retired in June 1996 as the director of the department of medicine, science and technology of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry to become an independent consultant. He was previously a non-executive director of the East Suffolk Local Health Services trust.

Tom Norreys has taken over as chair of the Llanelli/Dinefwr trust from Brigadier Ron Jenkins. He was previously vice-chair of the trust and is a director and former founding chair of the Llanelli Enterprise Company.

Labour councillor Christine Graham has been appointed a non-executive director of Hammersmith Hospitals trust.

She works as an area manager for a national charity.

Alison Norman has been elected president of the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting.

She is director of primary care and executive director of nursing at North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare trust. Her previous positions include chair of the Health Visitors' Association and chair of the Standing Nursing and Midwifery Advisory Committee.

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation has appointed two new directors.

Danielle Walker, recently head of policy at the National Lottery Charities Board, will be director of policy and practice development.

Roland Crooke, who has worked with a number of housing trusts, will be director of housing operations.
