Professor Marc Clement, dean of applied design and engineering at Swansea Institute of Higher Education, demonstrates a new laser treatment to restore the elasticity of burned skin. The treatment, developed in collaboration with Ruth Waters, a plastic surgeon at Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham, warms collagen fibres, freeing scar tissue. It also acts on blood vessels, reducing the redness of scars. Volunteers are now being recruited for a two-year trial of the treatment at Selly Oak Hospital.
