The NHS has agreed a licensing deal with Microsoft which will see it use the IT giant's desktop software for 900,000 computers. Both parties estimate a reduction in NHS IT costs of£330m over the nine-year contract. Under the agreement, Microsoft will provide£40m of research and development funding to enable other software providers to supply a consistent IT clinical interface for NHS users.
