Croydon community health council has invited health secretary Alan Milburn and junior health minster Gisela Stuart to its next meeting to 'explain the thinking behind the NHS plan' and in particular 'the intention to abolish CHCs'. The CHC hopes to persuade at least a senior civil servant to attend. Meanwhile, London Health Link, the London-wide organisation for CHCs, has described the plans to replace CHCs with a range of other measures as 'fragmented, tokenistic and biased' and 'no substitute for effective public involvement'. Chair Elizabeth Manero has also called for a meeting with ministers to discuss the plans, which will require primary legislation.
