There has been a modest increase in the number of GP practices offering extended opening hours, monthly figures show.
Department of Health statistics reveal that out of 8,258 practices in England, 71.1 per cent offered extended opening hours in January compared with 68.9 per cent in December.
Operating framework
Under the 2008-09 NHS operating framework, 50 per cent of GP practices in each primary care trust area should be offering extended opening hours.
In total, 97.4 per cent of commissioners achieved this last month, compared with 96.7 per cent the previous month.
Best and worst
One PCT - Western Cheshire - had no GP practices offering extended opening hours.
In Wiltshire PCT, 98.4 per cent of practices were opening for longer.
