Three drug companies have joined forces with the Multiple Sclerosis Society to provide£800,000 funding for nurses to assess patients and prescribe treatment at specialist centres around the UK.This follows the government's announcement that the beta interferon and glatiramer acetate drugs will now be available on the NHS.The society already has a nurse fund which has helped create 28 specialist nursing posts but it now hopes to add another 20 to 25.Though the NHS is expected to part-fund the posts, the society is prepared to offer the first-year salary costs where NHS funds are not available.
