The Liberal Democrats have pledged to introduce free personal care for elderly and disabled people in long-term care, which would cost£1.6bn-a-year paid for from a 50 per cent tax on incomes over£100,000. The proposal was announced this week by Lib Dem health spokesman Paul Burstow, who said it would inject almost£8bn more into health over a full parliament. It would also include free eye and dental checkups, and people with degenerative conditions such as multiple sclerosis would receive free medication.
