The NHS Information Authority has announced the domain name for the new e-mail and directory service that will give NHS staff an e-mail address 'for life'. It is nhs. net which means staff will have an e-mail address in the form john. smith@nhs. net
Welsh health minister Jane Hutt has said all NHS staff will be connected to a national BT-run broadband network, providing high-speed access to the NHS Wales intranet and other online services.
Many clinicians are already connected, but£3m has been allocated this year for expansion.
The NHSIA has named a preferred supplier to deliver basic IT skills to everyone in the NHS. A consortium led by Spring IT Training and including Learn ECDL and NCC Education has been chosen to handle European Computer Driving Licence training and support. ECDL is a flexible, modular qualification.
