For professionals working with children with attention deficit hyperactive disorder, a regional bi-monthly newsletter The ADD Update is now available country-wide.

Started in 1995, and originally a support group newsletter, it went independent in April last year as new subscribers from the North East and Lancashire joined many from Yorkshire. It is dedicated to raising awareness of ADHD, supporting other parents and sufferers and offering information to professionals who include health visitors, nursery school and special needs teachers, and family and welfare workers.

ADHD is a chronic condition and affects a large proportion of school-age children (up to 20 per cent) although its effects can be alleviated with a variety of educational and management accommodations. The main symptoms - hyperactivity, inattention, impulsiveness, insatiability, learning difficulties and low self-esteem - are often taken into adulthood. For details please send an SAE marked Update.
