NHS Comparators, a web-based service that displays data for hospital admissions for key conditions and all outpatient referrals by GP practices, has been launched.
The service uses existing data from the Secondary Uses Service managed by the Information Centre for health and social care.and NHS Connecting for Health.
The data is standardised for population and presented by GP practice to show activity and referral patterns and outcomes for a number of key conditions.
The service is designed to allow primary care clinicians to become more informed about local patterns of care and thus more involved in commissioning decisions to support local health needs.
The service allows primary care trusts.and strategic health authorities to benchmark performance and to assess the impact of practice-based commissioning.by comparing data that may have been affected by such activity, such as referral and admission rates.
This enables practice-based commissioners to understand how resources are used and to identify areas that will benefit from redesign.
