Targets to cut waiting times for services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, podiatry and speech and language therapy have been launched in Northern Ireland.

The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety has said that by March 2008 no patient should wait more than 26 weeks from referral to treatment and by March 2009 no patient should wait more than 13 weeks from referral to treatment. Currently, waiting times can be as long as two years. Other services affected by the targets include orthoptics and dietetics.
