About 450 whole-time equivalent posts are to be cut at one of the UK's largest hospital trusts.

Nottingham University Hospitals trust is to reduce the posts in a bid to achieve financial balance. Staff could lose jobs under the plans but the trust admits no money has been put aside for compulsory redundancy costs.

Last year 24 staff were made redundant at a cost of£1.8m but the trust hopes natural wastage, redeployment, retirement and voluntary redundancy will keep further payouts down.

Last year 872 posts were cut at the time through these methods.
