The Nursing and Midwifery Council has published its annual fitness to practise report for 2005-06.

The regulator's figures show that 1,378 allegations against nurses and midwives were considered by the council. Of these, 252 went to a hearing under the old rules and 128 were removed from the register. A total of 31 cases went to a hearing under the new rules and 16 were struck off.
