Welcome to this HSJ supplement on skills development, sponsored by Skills for Health, looking at the progress of the organisation a year into its life.
It has been a year of considerable change. The fledgling NHSU has had its wings clipped after the review of arm's-length bodies merged it into the National Institute of Learning, Skills and Innovation. Meanwhile the demand has grown for training that crosses disciplines, job boundaries and even organisations. And big workforce issues like pay modernisation, the Gershon efficiency review, equality and diversity and the pension consultation are all having an effect on how people view their own jobs and those of their staff.
Inside the supplement you will find articles on everything from the theory of sector skills agreements to details of how real organisations are applying Skills for Health principles to their everyday work. We hope you enjoy it and continue to look to HSJ's weekly Working Lives section for more on all aspects of workforce management and individual development.
Skills for Health is also sponsoring the new skills development category in this year's HSJ Awards. The deadline for entries is not until 20 July but I would urge you visit www.
hsjawards. co. uk straight away and start planning your entry. There is no better way in the healthcare world to get your success and innovation recognised.
