The Paddington Basin project - the largest ever hospital investment planned - was axed this week. North West London strategic health authority has ordered an independent review to consider lessons learned in the eight years spent planning the scheme. The costs of the project to bring together Harefield heart transplant centre, St Mary's Hospital, the Royal Brompton Hospital and medical research facilities from Imperial College on one site soared from£360m to£1.1bn.
