Ambulance drivers angry at what they say will be a£3,000 a year pay cut and poorer terms and conditions staged a demonstration at the opening of the accident and emergency unit at London's Newham General Hospital. The 34 members of the GMB trade union say Newham Healthcare trust is 'refusing to insist' that their terms and conditions are covered by transfer of undertakings protection of employment (TUPE) regulations. The GMB says unless the trust reverses its policy, staff who have already received their redundancy notices will be sacked at the end of the month and offered their jobs back on reduced pay and conditions by the new contractor, M&L Ambulance Services.
