All primary care groups should provide complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), according to a report by the House of Lords select committee on science and technology.

Launching the report last week, committee chair Lord Walton said that while 5 million people a year consulted a CAM practitioner, many PCGs had not provided the service because the evidence base was weak.

The report recommends all NHS provision of CAM should continue to be through a referral from a GP or another healthcare professional.
