Andrew Hotchkiss, chair, Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry code of practice review group

A major consultation exercise is underway to find out how NHS managers and other stakeholders would like to see the ABPI's code of practice changed.

The review is especially topical because the influence of the pharmaceutical industry is currently the subject of a Commons select committee inquiry.

This scrutiny is right and proper.

The industry is concerned that its relationships with stakeholders should be ethically conducted.

The formal consultation process lasts until 11 March, with the aim of publishing the new code by the end of the year.

To participate in the consultation exercise, you do not need to know the provisions of our current code of practice, or the legal phrases to cover every aspect of a given situation. It just means giving us some ideas of areas you think the code should or should not cover.

Your experiences of dealing with the pharmaceutical industry will be invaluable to us.
