Hampshire and Isle of Wight strategic health authority has denied reports that it has decided to close the only accident and emergency unit on the Isle of Wight.A spokesperson said that A&E services at St Mary's Hospital were being discussed as part of an exercise to ensure that health services throughout the SHA were 'fit for the future'.The SHA has produced a discussion document called HealthFit , which examines services in the context of the working-time directive, teaching requirements of the various royal colleges, national service frameworks and clinical governance.'We want public involvement in all decision making, ' a spokesperson said.
